An American actress, Jennifer Love Hewitt, opened up about her taking part in the planning of her character in the sequel, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Julie James.
The actress reveals how she redefines her role in a sequel as she was reprising the character of Julie James after 30 years, in a recent interview with Variety.
The film producer states that she brought her experience and understanding to make a real and meaningful impact on her character to make Julie’s return in the horror movie.
In the 1997 movie Julie was a scared teenager, but now in this sequel, she is a professor having trauma who has to survive the killers, along with the painful divorce from her husband, Ray Bronson, in a film.
The creative team also took the suggestion from the actress on how they can make her 90s roles after 27 years.
She said that the creative team gave her a space to know her character, which was very nice of the team, as they don’t have to do that.
She was feeling very seen, like the someone who had created her the first time, stated the actress.
It would be easy to make a new I Know What You Did Last Summer and place a line about Julie James and Ray, but that`s not it. The audience did not want to forget us and the Brandy’s characters, Karla, and they wanted us to come back, that’s why we are here for the audience.
Additionally, she stated that in her late 40s, doing a horror movie is a powerful message for the girls who are young.
The young girls should learn that as women grow older, it does not mean that people will count us out. The women in the horror movies show that older women are coming back strong, and they have some meaningful purpose in the world.
